Verdi for main course and Puccini for dessert at Bel Canto

I’m pretty sure after reading the title, many of you have presumed that i’m going to talk about Opera in Paris. Well… you’re wrong! Bel Canto is a very unique and atypical restaurant in Paris that was awarded tripadvisor Excellence Certificate in 2014.

Bel Canto has gained its fame due to combining refined culinary art and opera. However, this is not a simple restaurant with musical atmosphere.

Let’s start from the beginning! Bel Canto started as an idea of its founder Jacques de la Bussière and his partner in the late 90’s with the aim of recreating the excitement of live opera in a relaxed gourmet place to delight at a time your ears and your taste buds. They have conducted several auditions to end up with skilled opera singers who are conservatory students.

The first Bel Canto restaurant opened its doors in the 4th arrondissement in 2000. Dining at Bel Canto is an overwhelming experience. Imagine yourself sitting in a Parisian restaurant recalling a salon at Versailles or La Scala in Milan in the 18th century with its crisp white tablecloths beautifully ornate with fine lace, red velvet chairs, sparkling table settings complete with a grand piano and waiters/waitresses in authentic costumes from the Paris Opera.

Suddenly, Elisa, the pretty waitress who took your order, arises from a railing, transformed into Violetta, the heroine of La Traviate. Between courses, lights would dim for a moment and the restaurant will convert into a stage for a great show, and the waiters and waitresses  will be singing arias ranging from solos to quartets and include familiar pieces from Bizet, Puccini, Verdi, Tchaikovsky…all well-sung, and with excellent piano accompaniment.

Whether you’re an opera buff or not, you will be enchanted by such incredible voices of tomorrow opera stars.

Bel Canto is a place that offers its refined clientele a unique dining experience mixed with a bit of opera performed just in front of your eyes. Believe me, such performances combined with French cuisine and refined wine list will make you feel like royalty.

In a nutshell,  Bel Canto is a  meeting between two worlds, the lyrical song and gastronomy. A well-matched marriage of passions, for an original and unforgettable evening.

Following the success of its 1st restaurant in Paris, Bel Canto opened  on the Seine in the City Hall and Neuilly in 2004 and London in 2008.

PS: Make sure to book in advance and get dressed properly (dresses for women and suits for men!)  and arrive by 8 pm to see all performances.
